I was raised in a small town called Stanley, NC. I was 8 years old and b/c of my athletic capabilities at a young age, I assumed there was no sport I couldn’t do. My mom signed me up for cheer and I went to every practice eager to learn the material, as I was determined to make the team. I practiced so much around the house; my parents would yell, “sit down”. I went in the gym with 4 other girls and put on a show, so I thought. I left out the audition feeling really good and excited about becoming a cheerleader.

Even though my comedy comes from a point of view as a nurse, we all know someone who’s a nurse or that works in health care. We’ve all been a patient at the end of the day.
I knew nurses were working so hard going through that, and I wanted to provide them with an education platform so they can get their courses for free. Once nurses attend our cruise, they can get their CNEs through that platform. And we will also be putting our courses from the cruise on that platform. If you can’t attend the event for whatever reason but are interested in those courses, you will take them and get the CNEs for free after the ship has sailed. All healthcare professionals, medical personnel, licensed/certified nurses, and nursing students are welcome to join. Likewise, even better, those aged 18 and over on the date of departure can bring along their spouses and family members.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about or there’s a term I say that you are unaware of I am going to break that down for you during the show to make sure everyone’s on the same page. Everyone has a good time, no matter what you do occupationally. Vacations sometimes are once in a lifetime for people, and for them to connect with friends and family or coworkers is super special. We’ve done three cruises since we launched and had groups of nursing students who graduated together 20 years ago. Now it’s their annual trip, and they’ve been on all three.
And we were doing a course on pediatric trans health, and a nurse attended with her husband, who was just on as her guest. And he’s not in healthcare at all, but he sat through the course and came up to the educator afterward and cried. And they thanked the educator because their child is trans, and they learned so much from a non-healthcare perspective just from being on the ship and attending a CNE that the nurse didn’t have to attend. Knowing that it’s going to have a positive impact on their child’s life and their life as a family unit is what makes continuing education for nurses the most special.

While most medical complaints on ships are routine, the medical team is equipped to perform life support services and stabilize anyone seriously ill. Personnel trained in medivac procedures would then generally medically disembark the patient on a stretcher at the next port of call and have the person transferred to a hospital.
